SPOTadventures.com Offers Integrated Web Applications for Enhanced Online Experiences With SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — SPOT LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Globalstar Inc. (Nasdaq:GSAT) and a leader in personal satellite messaging and emergency communications, today announced it is previewing SPOTadventures.com, a new social networking site dedicated exclusively to the growing global SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger(tm) user community. SPOTadventures.com, scheduled to go live this spring, will offer SPOT users a free, interactive way to share their travel and outdoor experiences in real-time with others on the web.
SPOTadventures.com will offer a full-featured social network utilizing the latest Web 2.0 tools for uploading photos, videos, audio, text and maps to enhance subscribers’ communication of their outdoor adventures in a robust and visual way. Instead of using different sites to host a photo gallery or write a blog, users can now create, manage and share content from one location at www.spotadventures.com.
SPOT’s existing sharing feature was designed to simply allow subscribers to share SPOT GPS location points with others. Now with SPOTadventures.com, registered SPOT users can create a social hub of their outdoor experiences and take advantage of other online applications. Users can enhance their trips and adventures by overlaying their GPS waypoints on Google Maps(tm) or Google Earth(tm), upload geo-tagged photos and videos, allow friends to comment on recent trips, write trip blogs, send personal messages and much more, all managed by the user’s personal profile page.
“SPOT’s innovative technology and reliable satellite GPS messaging makes it the perfect device for sharing information in real-time from almost anywhere around the world, off-the-grid or just around town,” said Darren Bassel, Director of Marketing for SPOT LLC. “The GPS capabilities of SPOT are a cut above other GPS applications on the market today that can only deliver the location data via cellular or WiFi, limiting coverage to the wireless company’s service area and customers. SPOT delivers information over a global satellite network. Now, SPOTadventures.com will truly provide our customers with the ultimate platform in building a social experience around geo-location data.”
Using SPOTadventures.com, SPOT subscribers can share their adventure information with personal contacts of their choice and other social networking sites like Facebook, Flickr and EveryTrail. All information is private or public based on personal settings delivered through a secured Web portal.
SPOT is showcasing its products and new services this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in booth number 5218 in the Tech Zone located in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
